AEDC receives Esri’s ‘Special Achievement in GIS’ Award for job creation map

The interactive Arkansas Job Creation Map developed by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award Wednesday from Esri, the global leader in spatial analytics, at its annual User Conference in San Diego, California.

“The Esri User Conference is a great forum for our users to come together and share the amazing ways they are implementing GIS technology,” said Jack Dangermond, Esri founder and president. “The organizations recognized here are creating maps and using spatial analytics to make a difference in the world.”

The SAG Awards highlight U.S. and international private industry, nonprofit organizations and government agencies that have shown vision, leadership, hard work, and innovation in their use of Esri’s geographic information system (GIS) technology.

“The state’s interactive map illustrates the rapid growth of jobs that Arkansas has experienced over the past three years,” said Gov. Asa Hutchinson. “AEDC created the map so that we can graphically communicate our economic growth to business leaders who are considering expanding existing operations or moving to Arkansas. Our business environment has proven to be effective in helping both entrepreneurs and seasoned companies grow and expand.”

Esri is the global leader in spatial analytics, helping more than 350,000 organizations improve their operational and business results for almost 50 years. AEDC was among 180 awardees selected by Esri from more than 300,000 eligible candidates in areas such as commercial industry, defense, transportation, nonprofit, telecommunications, and government to receive a SAG Award. Other notable awardees this year include FEMA, Caterpillar, The Nature Conservancy, Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

The Arkansas Job Creation Map can be found in the “Map Room” of the AEDC website – www.ArkansasEDC.com – along with several other maps depicting population, incentives, foreign investment, and various vital industries in the state. The job creation map and others are also available in a PDF version.
