Basic Motors 101 – Batesville
About the Course
This one-day work shop will cover motor selection criteria and troubleshooting while discussing in detail the basic principles of how an induction motor operates, from an electric perspective as well as mechanical.
More than 300 million motors are used in industry, large buildings and in infrastructure globally, and 30 million new electric motors are sold each year for industrial purposes alone. Electric motor driven systems (EMDSs) in industry are estimated to be responsible for approximately 29% of overall global, and
69% of industrial electricity consumption. Their energy costs are estimated to be USD 362 billion per year.
Virtually every industrial sector and commercial building in the U.S. has induction motors in service. These motors can range from fractional horsepower to over 10,000 horsepower. What does it cost to operate an electric motor, what are the cost factors, do you know how much you are paying per year to operate the motors in your facility? The electrical energy of a motor can be as much as 162x the purchase price (over the life of the motor). And most importantly, how do you know if you have the correct motor specified, what must you consider when specifying/selecting an electric motor for an application?
In order to maximize the efficiency and reliability of your Induction motors one must understand “Motor Basics.”
