Arkansas Clean Cities Coalition and Pea Ridge National Military Park unveil propane-powered pickup truck

The Arkansas Clean Cities Coalition, a program of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Arkansas Energy Office, assisted Pea Ridge National Park with the park’s grant application through the Clean Cities National Partnership Initiative.

The project was a recipient of the National Park Service’s 2015 Director’s Partnership Award, which was shared among 29 national parks, 19 Clean Cities coalitions, the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of Energy. The award recognizes support of sustainable transportation projects in national parks across the country.

“Pea Ridge National Military Park is a treasure to Northwest Arkansas, and this project will help park visitors learn about sustainability and then see first-hand how energy efficiency practices can be put in place to improve our quality of life,” said Mitchell Simpson, director of the Arkansas Energy Office.

In 2010, the Department of Energy Clean Cities program and the National Park Service partnered to reduce petroleum use and greenhouse gas emissions in national parks. Together, completed projects will enable park visitors and employees across the nation to use electric cars, shuttles, and buses and propane powered mowers and trucks; charge electric vehicles; and learn about sustainability through education programs, outreach, and online resources.
